When purchasing your tickets for the AVE train keep in mind the AVE offers 2 first class options and a Tourist class (2nd Class):
Club class - which offers access to the AVE lounges at the rail stations, large comfortable reclining seats, selection of audio and video programs and a friendly staff will serve you beverages and light snack at your seat. Club class offers tables for each seat.
Preferente class - which offers access to the AVE lounges at the rail stations, larger comfortable reclining seats, selection of audio and video programs and a friendly staff will serve you beverages and light snack at your seat. Preferente class does not offer tables for each seat.
Tourist class (2nd class) - which offers generous legroom, a video and audio program selection at your seat and bar buffet car where to purchase a varied selection of snacks and beverages.
RENFE train travel Spain is proud of its on-time performance so much so that they are willing to reimburse you part or all of your ticket under the following circumstances.

On most of the Spain AVE train routes if the delay is between 16 to 30 minutes RENFE will reimburse you 50% of the ticket, delays over 30 minutes you should be reimbursed 100% of the cost of the ticket. Except for the Madrid to Seville where if the train is more than 5 minutes late RENFE will reimburse you 100% of the cost.
