Homemade Spanish Natillas

(Cream Custard)



Spanish Natillas are a typical homemade dessert. There are several variations of the recipe depending on the region or just the family recipe...This is the way my mother made them while I was growing up...

Ingredients needed:

  • 200 grams of white sugar
  • 1 liter of whole milk
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 spoonful of cornstarch
  • 1 stick of cinnamon

Cooking Instructions

Put aside a small cold glass of milk then take the rest of the milk pour it in a pan and bring to a boil

Add the stick of cinnamon

Beat the yokes of the eggs and mix in the sugar

Take the cornstarch and mix it with the small glass of milk we put aside earlier until the cornstarch is dissolved

Once the cornstarch is dissolved add the egg yokes

When the milk come to a boil takeout the stick of cinnamon and add the mixture of egg yokes, cornstarch and sugar constantly stirring

Stir until the custard thickens do not allow it to boil!


Above recipe serves 4 and takes about 30 minutes to prepare.
